A 47-year-old civil servant, Salami Adekunle, was yesterday struck dead by lightning at Oro in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The incident occurred during a downpour in most parts of the state in the morning.

Adekunle, an employee of the Registry Department of the College of Education, Oro, was a native of Ilesa in Osun State.
Witnesses said that the deceased was leaving the institution’s examination office for the Registry Department about 10a.m. when he was struck by lightning.
The college’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Adesola Adewoye, who confirmed the incident, said efforts to rescue Adekunle proved abortive.

Adewoye described the deceased as an easy going, loyal and dedicated man who would stop at nothing to impress his employer
He said: “The staff and management swung into action immediately the deceased was struck, but all our efforts to resuscitate him proved abortive.”

When journalists visited the school yesterday, staff were clustered in groups to discuss the development.
Some traditional religion worshippers were said to have later performed some rites on Adekunle’s body before it was taken away for burial.
